We're Back Up and Running

Aloha! We are now back and running our radio stream. It should be available to everyone, not just live365 members. We have completed our move to the Island of Hawai'i, and everything seems to be going well. We hope to be adding more music shortly. Keep checking with us!

Mahalo Nui!

The last 5 years have been fabulous, but on 3/21 we will be suspending our radio stream. We have provided island style music online for the last five years, but over the last year we haven't been able to update the music as much as we would like. The funds to continue service just aren't available at this time, as we make our move back to the islands. It's possible that we may resume broadcasting in the next few months, but no guarantees at this time. Aloha and Mahalo nui for listening!

New Mele!

We've added over an hour of new mele. That means we have over 22 hours worth of music rotating on the radio station now. We've got new songs from Pohaku, Katchafire, Maoli, Ho'okoa, Teresa Bright, Rebel Souljahz, and many others. Listen for these great new artists.

We've now added Tyna's latest single Overjoyed to the playlist. Tyna recently dropped us a quick email, and here's what he had to say.

My name is Tyna Keelan, My cousin Leon told me how his band (Katchafire) are doing well in Hawaii and how the Hawaiin people support Maori music so I approached North Shore Radio Hawai'i to introduce my music. I'm known here in Aotearoa as an Mcee but have always wanted to take it back to just singing and playing my guitar. Overjoyed is the first single off my solo album which is due out later this year.

Testafiyah

Here's a little more information about this great new Hawai'i based reggae band from their website: It has been nearly a decade, since singers/song writers/musicians, Bruce “Poncho” Ho‘opai, Shane “HHB” Kahalehau, and Vernon “Kuma” Kapua‘ala, have performed together on stage. Once forming the crucial core of the hard hitting reggae band (“Sly Dog”), they are now joined by former “Pound 4 Pound” singer, Allin Dudoit, and heavy basist, Makapu Ho‘opi‘i, of the Na Hōkū Hanohano award winning band, “Ekolu”. Although it was their passion for reggae music that introduced the men in the late 90’s, that passion has now been surpassed and is divinely driven—by their deep rooted love for God and their fellow man. Thus the rebirth of these young artists, and the Genesis of Hawaii’s Hottest New Band—Testafiyah. I hope everyone had a Mele Kalikimaka. New Year's is just around the corner. I can't wait to see what the new year brings. We've added a new Mango Bread recipe to Kau Kau Time and updated the playlist with many new songs. You should start to hear the songs in rotation shortly.

Makapu'u Sand Band

One Year Anniversary!

We've officially been on the air for 1 year. Mahalo to everyone who has listened and sent us emails. We've added over an hour of new music, and have more than 16 hours worth of music on North Shore Radio Hawaii. We hope you enjoy the new sounds. Kamau

Kamau is the latest group to be added to the North Shore Radio Hawaii music rotation. Kamau is a fronted by KAMANA BEAMER, son of Kapono Beamer, with KALIKO MA'I'I on bass and ADAM ZASLOW on drums. Kamau is a breath of fresh air for contemporary Maoli music. We've added Auwe, Hawaiian Kingdom, Ku'e no to the playlist.

Island State of Mind

Island State of Mind is a community of people who live in Hawai'i, and those who love the Hawaiian Islands. Check out the site, sign up. You can create your own blog, chat online, make new friends, and contribute to the forums. If you find it interesting please consider inviting your friends.

It is sort of like myspace for those who like Hawaii without all the advertising.

2007 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards Finalists Announced

Last week the 2007 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards Finalists were announced by the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts. This year features a new award catagory for "Music Video DVD."

Amy Hanaiali‘i Gilliom, Na Palapalai and Keali‘i Reichel each recieved seven finalist nominations for their albums this year.

The 2007 ceremony will be held at 5:00pm June 20 at the Hawaii Convention Center. The event will have some televised portions to air on KFVE beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Hawaiian Music Videos

We've started a new section to catalogue Hawaiian Music Videos on the web. We've just started the section, but plan to add all the videos we find. The section has some cool videos by Ryan Hiraoka, B.E.T., Opihi Pickers, and Kalapana. If you would like to share a video you've seen online please drop us the link so we can add it.

Request

We received a request last week to play some Kalapana. So, we hunted down our copy of The Best of Kalapana Volume 1, and added the Hurt and Naturally to the playlist. We love to play what you want to hear. Send us a request, and we'll get it on the air.

New Site Design Aloha! We're about to celebrate are one year anniversary of bringing island music to you online. Mahalo to everyone for your support this last year, without your support North Shore Radio Hawaii wouldn't be possible. During the next few weeks you will notice a few changes to the site. We've already added Kaukau Time - a recipe section, Ecards to share your aloha, Talk Story - to share your stories and events, Weather Center, and Daily Cartoon.

We have plans to add more fun links, quizzes, and give aways. Check back daily to see what we're up to.
